Cutting Edge Psychotherapy Technique Soothes Trauma by Working with Body, Mind and Soul
Internationally applauded author, therapist and teacher, Dr. Diane Poole Heller will present “The Web of Well Being: Body, Mind and Soul: Integrated Healing Techniques” in an intensive training in Byron Bay, Australia, December 2008.
The workshop is a dynamic combination of approaches to healing. The comprehensive program brings cutting edge psychology, solid science, and insightful spirituality together with Dr. Heller’s 30 years of trauma resolution experience through her artful, approachable teaching style. This workshop prepares therapists and other healing arts professionals to approach trauma healing holistically and effectively by inter-weaving all aspects of the human experience – body, mind, and spirit – in the healing process.
During the intensive course Dr. Heller explains how the painful effects of trauma can be released through various avenues including Somatic Experiencing速 techniques (as taught by Peter Levine), current research in the Polyvagal Theory (psycho-physiology), Attachment Theory Models, and Spiritual Perspectives.
This unique training teaches therapists how to address client’s recovery needs by tapping into their own natural and vast potential for recovery and growth. The workshop is presented with interactive lectures, multimedia presentations and live demonstrations of the therapeutic practices in actual healing sessions. Aspects of trauma and recovery that will be explored include the complex relationships that can exist between victims and their perpetrators, the opportunity that exists between trauma resolution therapy and spiritual transformation, and clinical foundations that can facilitate the goal of being more present for spiritual experience and expanded states of consciousness.
Dr. Heller’s approach to healing is a result of over 30 years of research, teaching, practice and spiritual disciplines which have lead to her belief that trauma, when supported with the proper approaches, can be an opportunity of greater spiritual expansion.
The main focus of her worldwide trainings is the (SE) technique founded by Peter Levine. His theory postulates that symptoms of trauma are the effect of a dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomic_nervous_system (ANS). He has shown through his work that, when supported by the procedures of Somatic Experiencing速, the body has an inherent capacity to self-regulate itself after experiencing trauma. SE sessions are done face to face, however unlike traditional psycho-therapy, they involve a client tracking his or her own “felt-sense” experience. This approach engages the client’s awareness of their own physical sensations as a partner to their own recovery.
Through a series of techniques that interplay between memories, body sensations, and dialogue with the therapist, traumatic events held in the body are discharged, allowing the body to be regulated and emotional balance to be restored.
Dr. Heller began her work with Peter Levine, founder of the method of trauma resolution in 1989. As a Senior Faculty member for Levine’s Foundation for Human Enrichment she teaches all levels of SE in the US and abroad, including Denmark, Italy, Israel and others. Her book Crash Course is an explanation of how to resolve auto accident trauma. It has been published in the US and internationally and is used as a guide for healing general trauma. Her highly successful series of media resources provide insights and instruction for SE practitioners and others interested in healing.
A dynamic speaker and teacher, Dr. Heller has been featured at prestigious international seminars and conferences and is the author of numerous articles in the field, including a CNN video production dealing with the Columbine High School tragedy.
